Local Area Hiking and Biking
- Lake Dillon lake trail - This is a well maintained hiking and biking trail right
outside the door of our Lake Dillon condo and goes all the way around the lake to the
Towns of Frisco, Breckenridge, Keystone.
- Summit County trail system - This is another well maintained hiking and biking trail
that is a continuation of the Lake Dillon trail above. This connects all the towns in
Summit County and you can go to Vail if you are a adventurous which is very ridable and
goes over Vail Pass.
- Buffalo Mountain - provides some great hiking above Silverthorne in Wildernest.

- Officer's Gulch - off of I-70 going West provides great hiking past a lake and into the mountains to the
North of I-70. Take the Officer's Gulch exit going West from Frisco and it is the first exit.

- Hoosier Pass - There are hiking trails from the top of the pass.
- Leadville National Forest trails
- National Forest area off the Blue River Valley.
Local Area
- Hut System
There are huts from two hut systems in the area.
The one local to Summit County is the Summit Huts.
One hut can be driven to which is the Shrine Mountain Inn in the 10th Mountain Hut system.
- The Summit Hut system is very close and these huts can be hiked to using
various trailheads in Summit County. Click on
Summit Huts but
it may not be accessible yet.
- 10th Mountain Huts are further away but the Shrine Mountain Inn and
Janet's Cabin are the closest and these 2 huts are near Vail Pass on the map.

- Ptarmigan Peak Wilderness Area - is directly North of Silverthorne and just to the
North of Dillon also.

Local Drives
- Hwy 6 West - Loveland Pass - West on Hwy 6 past Keystone and Arapahoe Basin.
You end up at Loveland Ski Area and I-70.
- Hwy 9 South - Hoosier Pass - South on Hwy 9 past Frisco, Breckenridge and the Town of Blue River
to the top of Hoosier Pass.
- I-70 West - Leadville - Go to Copper Mountain Ski Area and a road south from Copper Mountain will take you to
the Town of Leadville and the many National Forest trails there.
- I-70 West - Vail Pass and Shrine Pass - You will go over Vail Pass on I-70 but Shrine Pass is to the South
of I-70 near the top of Vail Pass. This is a forest access road and at the top of Shrine Pass there is a restaurant
which is open in the Summer and a 10th Mountain Division Hut (see below).
- I-70 West - Vail - Vail is about 25 minutes West on I-70.
Longer Drives
- Hwy 9 South - Fairplay - Going past Hoosier Pass above will take you to the
towns of Alma and Fairplay.
- Hwy 9 and 285 South - Collegiate Mountains -
Going past Hoosier Pass and Fairplay above will take you to
Highway 285 and going South (right) will take you to the Collegiate Mountain Range,
Buena Vista, Princeton Hot Springs and Salida.
From Salida you can go to the Monarch Ski Area, Crested Butte, the Black Canyon of the Gunnison,
or South to the Great Sand Dune National monument. Another alternative is to continue West (North) on Hwy 24
to Leadville but this is the long way to Leadville.
- Hwy 9 South and 24 East - Florissant Fossil Beds amd Colorado Springs
- Highway 9 North - Along the Blue River valley and to Steamboat Springs and the Colorado River
and the Yampa River.
- I-70 West - Glenwood Springs and Aspen
- I-70 East - Mount Evans, Idaho Springs and Georgetown
- Mount Evans is a "fourteener", a mountain over 14,000 feet tall and it has
the highest paved road in North America and you can drive to the top on this road.
Bighorn Sheep and Mountain Goats are easily seen here but please do not feed them.
Mount Evans is close to the town of Idaho Springs.
- Georgetown is a small town along the freeway and has viewing platforms to
look for bighorn sheep. You will need good binoculars to see them and they are
not that easy to find but at times are seen along the freeway.
- Idaho Springs is another small mountain town but larger than Georgetown.
Near Leadville
- Camp Hale was a camp in World War II
for the winter mountain training of the 10th Mountain Division.
- Many trails in the National Forest near Leadville.
